Legal Action Against Ford

The ad shows the sisters gagged at the back seat and reads “Leave your worries behind with Figo’s extra large boot”. The front seat shows Paris Hilton winking in the driver’s seat.
Although the car giant has already issued a formal public apology, it should be protocol for any ad agency, regardless of where it is located, to practice prudence. Alienating or insulting any group of people or person is never a good way to establish good business. By following good examples of successful business models like partypoker, they can easily increase their sales and garner a huge following at the same time. The online gaming site has been one of the most successful online poker companies the world over. By using social media sites like Facebook, public relations events like poker charities and sponsoring football giants like Manchester United and Real Madrid, partypoker was able to increase their customers in a positive manner. Mocking a celebrity to gain prominence is just the wrong way to go about it. The Kardashian sisters have firmly decided to seek legal action against Ford India.
Ford said, “We deeply regret this incident and agree with our agency partners that it should never had happened… The posters are contrary to the standards of professionalism and decency with Ford. Together with our partners, we are reviewing approval and oversight process to help ensure nothing like this ever happens again.” The ad is not exclusive to the Kardashian sisters but also featured other prominent names like Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi with three women tied and gagged at the back seat as well. In light the recent events, an undisclosed number of employees were relieved of their jobs. Whoever thought about it might have seen it as a clever and humorous way of emphasizing the increased capacity of their Figo model. The ad came at a bad time as India is also outraged because of a recent gang rape and murder of a student that rocked the country. The comedic effect that the ad was aiming for was done in a distasteful and untimely manner. It’s also unwise to indirectly insult women who are not only trendsetters, but efficient and successful businesswoman in their respective fields. Despite the glamour of the Kardashians, they own a hefty number of businesses including their own line of clothing.
Ads that go for a comedic effect should always be wholesome. Instead of tied up celebrities and young women, they could’ve simply go for a number of large things or huge animals (without depicting abuse or harm) and run the same train of thought.
